Discussing a draft of a city peace trail leaflet a Balsall Heathan made an intriguing reference to the ‘hidden peace history’ of the city – often hidden due to demolition.

The only instance that comes to mind now is the Peace Centre (June 1969 to June 1985) – an alternative book shop at 18 Moor Street, Queensway. Another Balsall Heathan said that the prime mover was Peter Kirby (below with Neil Matthew,1977). Where are they now?

The bookshop stocked many peace, political and gender-related publications and hosted several peace groups until it closed and – in the early 70s – , which then acquired its own premises.

Can readers send any other news of the city’s ‘hidden peace history’?
