Catching the last few words of John Newson’s interview on West Midlands Radio earlier this afternoon prompted me to cover the fulfilment of his 2011 New Year resolution to fill less than one black bin bag throughout 2012. He wanted to discover how much household waste can be reused, recycled or composted – result 90%; this raises a question: is it necessary for Birmingham City Council to spend £30 million a year on Waste Disposal?

The “extreme recycler” has just been crowned Britain’s greenest homeowner.  John made a 2011 New Year resolution to fill less than one black bin bag throughout 2012. He managed it by composting everything he could and recycling paper, cardboard, glass and cans.”
