For those who missed Neil Elkes’ article a week ago in the Birmingham Mail, he wrote: 

  • The council report into the future of Birmingham’s Wholesale Markets, expected this month, could be put off until after May’s local elections. 
  • It is said to be taking longer than expected to collect the financial information required. 
  • The council is also in talks with two developers, St Modwen and Hansteen, over sites at Heartlands Park in Washwood Heath and Saltley Business Park which may be suitable for relocation. 

Wholesale Market Traders Association member Keith Smith, who runs the Caterfish seafood unit, said: “Our preferred option is to stay on the current site with a new, smaller facility which would allow the council to sell off part of the land.”
